I am very particular about my lips. Dry and chapped lips are probably the most annoying thing for me. Anyone else feel that way? I mean when taking care of your skin, you can’t forget the lips! After all who doesn’t like to flaunt a pretty pout? Well, for my beauty needs, I usually rely on DIY recipes. So, here I am sharing some homemade lip scrubs which are all natural, free of chemicals and easy to make. The best part is that it’s absolutely ok if you happen to get some scrub in your mouth!
Homemade Lip Scrubs- SUGAR LIP SCRUB
Ingredients
- 2 tsp of brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp honey (just enough to mix with brown sugar and make a paste)
- 1 tsp olive oil/coconut oil
- 2-3 drops of your favourite essential oil or vanilla essence (this is optional just to add flavour and smell to the scrub)
Directions
Mix all the mentioned ingredients. Once blended, apply the scrub onto your lips, rub it well in circular motions and exfoliate gently to loosen the dead skin. Let it sit for a minute or two, then rinse off with lukewarm water. Apply your favourite lip balm afterwards to rehydrate lips.
Brown sugar acts as a natural exfoliator which removes dead cells and reveals the healthier and softer lips from beneath. Honey works as a humectant that keeps the lips moisturised after exfoliation.
LEMON LIP SCRUB
Ingredients
- 1 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 tsp coconut oil/ almond oil
- 2 tsp granulated sugar
Directions
Start by mixing lemon juice and almond oil in a small bowl. Slowly stir in sugar until the mixture reaches desired consistency. Now apply to lips and gently massage for few minutes to exfoliate. Rinse with warm water, and apply your favorite balm or gloss.
Almond oil prevents chapped lips and leave them moisturized. Lemon will exfoliate dead cells so new, fresh skin can appear. It makes the lips smooth and lighter but avoid this lemon scrub if you have severely chapped lips with cuts.
SEASALT LIP SCRUB
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Seasalt
- A splash of apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp raw honey
- 5-10 drops essential oil (optional)
Directions
Mix all the ingredients well to form the scrub. You may also add in your favourite essential oil to make it smell good. Apply gently over your lips to remove dry dead skin. You may also use a small toothbrush for extra exfoliation. Leave it for 1-2 minutes before washing off.
Sea salt contains variety of minerals like magnesium, which are good for skin. But avoid using salt on cracked or bleeding lips as it can STING and cause pain. The pure essential oil aids in healing dry, cracked and chapped lips. It moisturises the lips and makes them soft.
COFFEE LIP SCRUB
Ingredients
- 2 tsp coffee
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1-2 drops essential oil (Peppermint/ Lemon/ Vanilla, any of your choice!)
Directions
Stir and smash the coffee and coconut oil until it’s well blended. Now add any essential oil of your choice. Take a small amount on your finger, apply to your lips, and scrub in circular motion for up to one minute. Rinse off with water and pat dry. If not lip balm, you can also dab a coconut oil afterwards to seal in the moisturizing benefits.
Coffee is a natural exfoliator which removes the dead outer surface of your lips and make it soft and supple. Coconut oil soothes skin and treats chapped lips by reducing inflammation.
FRESH CREAM LIP SCRUB
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp fresh cream
- ½ tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp honey
Directions
Take a cream and stir in brown sugar; add honey in it and mix until fully combined. Now rub a small amount into lips using a circular motion, then rinse away with warm water.
Fresh cream nourishes the lips from within and keeps them hydrated. Brown sugar is little softer than white granulated sugar. Being natural and unrefined, it is full of vitamins and minerals which help to fade dark pigmentation on lips.
