More and more people are embracing a plant-based lifestyle these days. What could be the reason? Some are an animal lover or are concerned more about the environment while others have health concerns about eating non-veg foods. Well, whatever the reason may be, there’s a growing number of people who are becoming vegan or vegetarian and are reaping benefits of leading a healthier lifestyle. As Bollywood stars are a constant source of fitness inspiration for many, so I thought to share the list of vegetarian Bollywood celebrities. They have opted for vegetarianism and veganism to switch to a fitter, healthier, and a “cruelty-free” lifestyle!
Vegetarian Bollywood Celebrities- ANUSHKA SHARMA
Anushka Sharma, the actress who has got a fabulous body and beautiful looks have committed herself to a vegetarian diet. She switched to vegetarianism over three years ago and is proud of her choice.
Talking about this major lifestyle change, she said in one of her interviews, “Going vegetarian was difficult for me but it was a conscious choice I made. I have more energy, I feel healthier, and I’m so happy that no animals had to suffer for my meals.”
Earlier, there were many rumours that she made her choice because of her pet dog, Dude. However, to give up eating meat has nothing to do with her pet. Anushka later cleared it all by tweeting, “So many reports say I quit non-veg food because my dog doesn’t like the smell of meat! My dog EATS meat. He’s a dog.”
The actress has been a vocal animal activist for several years. She teamed up with PETA India to promote meat-free meals. “If I eat healthily, I will be healthy and also live in harmony with the environment,” believes Anushka who follows a gluten-free diet, and is almost vegan.
ALIA BHATT
Chirpy beauty Alia is setting a great example for her fans and millions of other people who want to fight climate change with their forks. Alia Bhatt famously switched to a vegetarian diet in 2015 and was named as the hottest vegetarian by PETA last year.
She seems to be enjoying her changed food habits and now would continue the diet for a lifetime. “I prefer having vegetarian food. It is a way to a healthy life. I am feeling ‘lighter, happier and cooler,” said Alia. Her father, producer Mahesh Bhatt, is also a vegetarian.
SONAKSHI SINHA
There were days when Sonakshi was always criticized for being plump but now she has become the fitness icon for many. SONAM KAPOOR
The true fashionista of Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor, is known to be an animal lover and activist. It was her compassion toward animals that she decided to go vegan.
Sonam turned to vegetarianism a few years back when she became more fitness conscious and was on her weight loss spree. Recently, to pursue a healthier lifestyle, she turned vegan too. She has completely stopped consuming milk and milk products. As she was vegetarian for a brief period so going vegan wasn’t as difficult for her (although she does miss a few things like curd). She was even named the Hottest Vegetarian for 2016 by PETA India. Her mother, Sunita Kapoor is also a strict vegetarian.

JACQUELINE FERNANDEZ
Jacqueline supports NGOs related to animal safety and protection as she is strictly against animal cruelty. She has taken her commitment towards animals one step further by going vegan. And now for several years, she has been on a meat-free and dairy-free diet.
“I went vegan, and I’ve never felt better. Now, I want to share that wonderful feeling with everybody I know. Going vegan is the best thing you can do to help stop animal suffering, protect the environment and safeguard your health,” she said in one of her interviews.
She believes in eating a wholesome diet and loves organic vegetarian food. Not just this, the Sri Lankan beauty is known to encourage her family, friends, and fans to start eating vegan food.
TAMANNA BHATIA
Tamanna Bhatia, who once used to enjoy fish, chicken, meat, and eggs, now has quit non-vegetarian food and has gone green. She took this sudden decision because of the ill health of her five-year-old pet dog Pebble.
“I have been born and brought up in a typical Sindhi meat-loving household. So, it was quite hard for me to quit non-vegetarian food. But when last month, Pebble got unwell and suffered a severe paralysis attack, I realized that it was time for me to switch to vegetarianism,” said the actress.
Now the actress has given up her non-vegetarian lifestyle. She wished she had switched to vegetarianism long ago!
AMITABH BACHCHAN
The Actor of all actors, the Shahenshah of Bollywood leads a vegetarian lifestyle. We wonder how the actor remains fit and how he manages to get done so much of work in a day even at this age? And the living legend states vegetarian food is the secret behind his energy.
The actor’s health has also played an integral role in making his life choices, ever since his intestine was damaged while shooting for Coolie in 1982. He has even lost 75 per cent of his liver due to cirrhosis. All this prompted him to take care of his body more. So to become fitter, he gave up non-veg food totally and is now a pure vegetarian.
No doubt, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) named him the hottest vegetarian several times.

JOHN ABRAHAM
John Abraham is a vegetarian. Isn’t it tough to believe? John has always had one of the best bodies in Bollywood and with such a muscular physique, it is quite difficult to believe that he is not a non-vegetarian.
So if you think that one cannot bulk up in the gym unless their workout is complemented with meat protein, think again! John Abraham is a perfect example who maintains this physique by staying away from non-veg food. All thanks to his love for animals, he swears by vegetarianism!

“I am very happy being a vegetarian and I believe that it is the best way to be,” said Shahid Kapoor. Yes, the chocolate boy of Bollywood is a pure vegetarian by choice. He is the one who has made choosing plant-based foods more popular than ever.
Shahid gave up eating meat when his father gifted him a book titled, ‘Life is Fair’ by Brian Hines. He read that book and it had such a huge impact on his mind that he swore off non-veg, ever since. An animal-lover, Shahid has actively participated in several campaigns by PETA and was also the winner of the title Asia’s hottest vegetarian man in the year 2011.
AAMIR KHAN
Mr.Perfectionist in Bollywood decided to go vegan on 2nd February 2015. Not only meats and eggs but he has also stopped eating products like milk, ghee, paneer and most Indian sweets made of milk. He even takes his tea with soya milk.
Kiran Rao, his wife, who herself is a vegan was the one who influenced Aamir into veganism. She showed him a video of about 15 of the most common life-threatening diseases that can be prevented by a vegan diet. In an interview with Peta, Khan said: “The video showed me a healthier way of life. After watching it, I was convinced that vegans are way ahead of non-vegetarians and even vegetarians.”
